Dr Berg Sleep Aid Review: Does it Help Sleep At All?

Dr Berg Sleep Aid Review at a Glance

Pros

  • Good selection of natural sleep aids
  • Helps reduce mental chatter and anxiety

Cons

  • Missing melatonin and other core sleep supplement ingredients
  • Magnesium, an otherwise effective sleep aid, is severely underdosed (only 2% of your daily need per serving)

Summary:

Dr. Berg Sleep Aid is an okay sleep enhancement supplement. However, for the price that is being charged ($41.99), we expected more. Its formula consists of a number of unproven and/or underdosed sleep aid ingredients, and it’s also missing the key sleep aid – melatonin.

About Dr Berg Sleep Aid

As the name suggests, Dr. Berg’s Sleep Aid is designed with ingredients to support restful sleep and help you wake up feeling energized and refreshed.

It consists of 15 nutrients that help you fall asleep and experience deeper rest. This sleep pill is an easy and simple way to promote healthy sleep cycles, reduce your stress levels, and fight off unwanted cravings.

At least, this is what Dr. Berg’s official website says.

How well this Sleep Aid works, if it’s worth the money, and how it compares to other products on the market, are all questions we’ll be looking into now.

How to use Dr Berg Sleep Aid

You are instructed to take 1 capsule of Dr Berg Sleep Aid before bed. You can take up to 3 capsules per day – do not exceed this amount to avoid negative side effects.

Dr Berg Sleep Aid Ingredients

Dr Berg Sleep Aid contains the following ingredients:

  • Vitamin C
  • Niacin
  • Calcium
  • Magnesium Citrate
  • Foti Root Extract (24:1) (119mg)
  • L-theanine (100mg)
  • Tryptophan (100mg)
  • Glycine (25mg)
  • DMAE (25mg)
  • GABA (25mg)
  • Rehmannia root powder (25mg)
  • L-glutamine (25mg)
  • Choline (4mg)
  • Adrenal substance (10mg)
  • Adrenal pituitary substance (500mcg)

As a whole, Dr Berg Sleep Aid looks like decent, well-studied sleep formula. It contains some of the best natural sleep ingredients in tryptophan, l-theanine, and glycine. Together, these should help to calm your mind by increasing GABA production, which is a neurotransmitters that calms the firing between your neurons.

There is also some adrenal substance in Dr Berg Sleep Aid, which is interesting and not something you see often in natural sleep aids. Adrenal substances have been under a lot of controversy in the industry, with some experts claiming they can interfere with your natural hormone production. Others say adrenal supplements can only benefit users by improving the function of their own adrenals – giving your adrenals building blocks it needs to maintain optimal hormone levels.

The jury is still out on how effective and safe adrenal supplements are long-term. From a personal experience, I’m not the biggest fan of adrenal supplements. I’ve taken different variations for a number of years without much benefit; if anything, they gave me side effects such as nausea and energy fluctuations.

But perhaps the most obvious question regarding Dr. Berg Sleep Aid is where is melatonin? This is arguably the single most common and most important ingredient in sleep formulas. The answer is that Dr. Berg is not the biggest fan of melatonin. He argues that synthetic melatonin could interfere with natural melatonin production and have long-term side effects.

Why then, hasn’t he included natural melatonin instead? Could it be because it’s expensive to manufacture? We can’t tell for sure, but adding natural melatonin into this formula would definitely enhance its effects on your sleep duration and latency.

Lastly, a few ingredients in Dr Berg Sleep Aid are not proven to work for sleep, and/or are underdosed. These include GABA (oral absorption which is shown to be low) and magnesium (underdosed and thus ineffective).

The bottom line is this: Dr. Berg Sleep Aid looks capable of helping you get to sleep faster and improving your sleep depth. However, we wouldn’t expect the same results as those of the market-leading sleep aids.

Does Dr Berg Sleep Aid Have Side Effects?

Dr Berg Sleep Aid shouldn’t cause you any major side effects provided you’re healthy and not taking any meds. The only exception is adrenal substance which can lead to energy swings and nausea for some people.

Where to Buy?

Dr. Berg Sleep Aid is available on its official website and on retailers like Amazon. It costs $41.99 on its official website.

The Bottom Line

Dr Berg Sleep Aid is a supplement worth checking if you have trouble falling asleep and staying asleep. However, it’s not the best sleep aid we’ve seen. Considering the price that is being charged, the lack of natural melatonin along with some underdosed ingredients in the formula make it fall behind the best sleep supplements we currently recommend.
