Zhou Calm Now Review: Does it Work? (2024 Update)

Zhou Calm Now Review - Does it Work?

Here’s our Zhou Calm Now review. We’ll be checking its ingredients, dosage directions, benefits, side effects, and customer reviews among others to see how it will work for stress and anxiety as well as if it’s good value for money.

Zhou Calm Now Review at a Glance

Zhou Calm Now consists of natural ingredients, including Ashwagandha, Rhodiola minerals, and B vitamins. It also contains sedatives that should induce some drowsiness and reduce overthinking. However, the doses of some of these ingredients aren’t optimal, and some of them aren’t shown at all – they’re hidden in a proprietary blend. Zhou Calm Now contains cheap forms of magnesium and zinc which don’t absorb very well. For the price of $15 though, this is as good as it gets. If you’re on a tight budget, then it could be worth looking into. However, if you’re looking for the best anti-stress supplements that use more proven ingredients (and in better doses), we recommend doing more research.

Zhou Calm Now Ingredients

Zhou Calm Now Ingredients

Here are the ingredients in Zhou Calm Now:

  • Thiamine (B1) – 12 mg
  • Riboflavin (B2) – 12mg
  • Niacin (as Niacinamide) – 28 mg
  • Vitamin B6 (from Pyridoxine HCI) – 8 mg
  • Vitamin B5 (from Calcium D-Pantothenate) – 16 mg
  • Magnesium Oxide – 25 mg
  • Zinc Oxide – 25 mg
  • Calm Now® Botanical Blend 400 mg, consisting of:
    • Hawthorn (berry), Hops (cone extract), Passion Flower (aerial with blossom), Lemon Balm (extract)
  • Ashwagandha (root extract) – 200 mg
  • Rhodiola (Rhodiola rosea) (root extract) – 200 mg
  • Bacopa (Bacopa monnieri) (leaf extract) – 200 mg

The ingredients look good – for the most part. You have basic B vitamins for energy along with some herbs for mental clarity and mood support. These include Ashwagandha, Rhodiola, and Bacopa.

However, the inclusion of a proprietary blend means you can’t see the doses of some ingredients. Zhou Calm Now also uses Zinc Oxide and Magnesium Oxide, which have low bioavailability.

Let’s inspect the ingredients closer to see how they will work for you.

B Vitamins

As I’ve mentioned, B vitamins can help you feel more alive, with more energy and mental clarity to kick the day off with a bang. This, however, is only the case if you’re deficient in B vitamins. Most people won’t notice any benefits as most foods that we eat on a daily basis already contain these nutrients.

Magnesium

Magnesium is an essential trace mineral. It’s involved in countless functions of your body. Benefits of supplementing magnesium include reduced fatigue and muscle cramps, and improved energy levels. In terms of stress reduction, Mg is also highly beneficial. The optimal magnesium dose is 200-400mg. The problem is, there’s just 25mg of magnesium in Zhou Calm Now – and, since it comes as oxide, it has a very low absorption rate. Most of it will not be utilized properly and be excreted.

Zinc

This is the same story as with magnesium. A good ingredient, but the form Zhou Calm Now uses has poor bioavailability, diminishing its effectiveness.

Calm Now Botanical Blend

This is the proprietary blend that we touched upon earlier. It consists of Hops, Hawthorn Berry, Passionflower, and Lemon Balm. Hawthorn Berry is a source of healthful antioxidants that doesn’t have much of an effect on stress or anxiety. On the other hand, Passionflower and Lemon Balm do help with stress and anxiety through sedation. As they will make you drowsy, Zhou Calm Now is best taken before sleep and not during the day when you need to maintain peak function. As for Hops, even though it helps with sedation, it’s not the best ingredient for men due to its high estrogenic activity.

Ashwagandha

Ashwagandha is an ancient Ayurvedic herb with anti-stress effects. It’s an excellent choice. It lowers cortisol, the main stress hormone of our body. The optimal Ashwagandha dosage for stress is 500-600mg per day. The 200mg that’s in Zhou Calm Now will still provide some level of benefit, albeit not to the same extent.

Rhodiola

Rhodiola is an Arctic-native herb that combats fatigue and sluggishness. This effect balances out the sedatives in Zhou Calm Now. Don’t put Rhodiola in the same category as caffeine, though. Even though it increases energy, it’s not a stimulant! So for most people, it should not increase stress hormones like most stimulants do.

Bacopa

Bacopa is another adaptogenic herb. This one is more commonly found in nootropics supplements due to its positive effects in memory and information recall. For some people, Bacopa might help with stress to an extent, but it’s not one of our favorite ingredients for this kind of supplement.

We’re missing more proven ingredients in the formula to make it effective at doing what its manufacturers claim. These ingredients include Phosphatidylserine, L-Tyrosine, L-Theanine, and Chamomile amongst others.

Customer Reviews

Zhou Calm Now reviews and testimonials can be found on Amazon and other websites where this supplement sells. While there are some reports of side effects, most people are happy with the safety of this supplement. That said, it’s best to do your own research on the ingredients in order to see how it will work for you, instead of relying of other people’s testimonials which can easily be faked or paid ads.

Does Zhou Calm Now Have Side Effects?

Zhou Calm Now contains sedatives, so it will naturally lead to increased sluggishness and fatigue. Other than that, there are very few reports of side effects from using Zhou Calm Now. It has no stimulants so it’s unlikely to cause an increase in stress or mood swings.

It does have hops which may not be the best ingredient choice for male users. Taken on an empty stomach, Zhou Calm Now may lead to some nausea or stomach distress, which is easily avoidable if you take it with a meal.

Pros and Cons of Zhou Calm Now

Pros

  • A few good anti-stress adaptogenic herbs
  • Ashwagandha helps lower cortisol and mood swings
  • Cheap

Cons

  • Relies too much on sedatives to reduce stress, instead of using actual anti-stress ingredients
  • Key ingredients underdosed
  • Proprietary blend hides some ingredient doses
  • Zinc Oxide and Magnesium Oxide may cause diarrhea

The Bottom Line

Zhou Calm Now is a natural anti-stress and anti-anxiety formula with some good ingredients, but also some poor ingredient choices. In addition to hiding some ingredient doses behind a proprietary blend, Zhou Calm Now also uses a few ingredients that are of lower bioavailability. We appreciate these are cheaper to produce but they also don’t get absorbed as well in your body, meaning you waste a lot of it.

Granted, you can’t expect top-quality ingredients in supplement that costs only $15. So if you aren’t looking for anything serious right now, this could provide you with some good sedation that will help you fall asleep faster and alleviate overthinking.
