Neuriva vs NeuroQ – Which is Better?

Neuriva vs NeuroQ - Which is Better?

Neuriva vs NeuroQ – which is better? Our team brings these two supplements face to face to help you determine which one might be the right choice for you.

Neuriva vs NeuroQ Summary: While neither Neuriva nor NeuroQ made it onto our “top list” of the best nootropics, our vote goes to NeuroQ. It has a substantially stronger formula than Neuriva (6 vs 2 ingredients) and also Neuriva Plus. The ingredients themselves in NeuroQ are better researched, and it is overall a superior value for money. That said, NeuroQ is still far from the best brain supplement we’ve seen. It lacks core ingredients important for long-range brain function, as well as using some unproven and ineffective compounds like Propolis and Coffee Fruit Extract.

Neuriva vs NeuroQ – The Overview

Neuriva is an all-natural supplement manufactured by the well-known U.S. company Schiff Vitamins. Neuriva contains 2 key ingredients, which, according to the manufacturer, work together to improve your memory, focus, accuracy, literacy, learning, and concentration.

You will find Neuriva available on its website in different versions. For example, you will find Neuriva “Original” and Neuriva “Plus.” There are also Neuriva capsules as well as Neuriva Gummies. In general, all of these versions of Neuriva contain similar ingredient profiles, which means you can expect similar effects from all of these.

A 30-capsule bottle of Neuriva will last you a full month if you take the recommended 1 capsule per day with a meal. The price varies depending on where you buy, but it hovers around $32.99 per bottle.

NeuroQ, on the other hand, is manufactured by Dr. Dale Bredesen, a New York Times Best-Selling Author and Neurologist. It contains 6 active ingredients that are said to improve your:

  • Decision Making
  • Comprehension
  • Processing Speed

If you visit NeuroQ’s website, you will notice that they link these benefits with studies that were done on people who were taking NeuroQ.

The question is, are the ingredients in NeuroQ supported by peer-reviewed, robust clinical trials to work as the manufacturer claims? And are the findings of the NeuroQ-funded study reflective of the actual benefits that you can expect from this supplement? Is it better than Neuriva?

Let’s take a closer look.

Neuriva vs NeuroQ – Ingredients

Neuriva Ingredients

Here are the ingredients in Neuriva, as shown on the label:

Neuriva Ingredients
Neuriva’s Ingredients

Right off the bat, we can see Neuriva only has 2 active ingredients, they are:

  • Phosphatidylserine – 100mg
  • Coffee Fruit Extract – 100mg

There is also the Neuriva Plus version, with a very similar ingredient profile. It is basically the same as Neuriva Original, just with some added B vitamins;

Neuriva Plus Ingredients
Neuriva Plus’ Ingredients

No matter if you go with Neuriva or Neuriva Plus, both look like transparent and light formulas to us. In fact, we believe Neuriva and Neuriva Plus are too weak to produce a substantial effect on your memory or cognitive function.

Phosphatidylserine is an excellent long-term brain health enhancer. Phosphatidylserine is actually found in high amounts in your brain tissue, but it reduces as you get older. Which can contribute to mental decline.

  • Supplementing Phosphatidylserine is shown to be an effective way to protect your brain health long-term. However, if you’re looking for something with a noticeable effect on focus, clarity, or memory, PS isn’t it. The effects of PS are not apparent, especially not in the short term.

That leaves us with Coffee Fruit Extract as the second and last ingredient in Neuriva. Schiff Vitamins point to a study that shows that Whole Coffee Fruit Concentrate Powder led to significant increases in BDNF (Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor) in volunteers. What is BDNF? It is a protein that triggers the growth of new nerves and brain tissue. Sounds great, right?

The problem is, and you may already have noticed it, that the study has used Whole Coffee Fruit Concentrate, not Coffee Fruit Extract.

An extract can be anything – water, fiber, nutrients. Any part of the plant could be extracted and called “Coffee Fruit Extract”. Therefore, the ingredient that Neuriva uses has nothing to do with the ingredient that the study showed improved BDNF in its participants.

Now, even if Coffee Fruit Extract in Neuriva was the same as the one from the study, it is still questionable if it works at all. We’re still talking about a single study. That is not enough to confirm if it really improves BDNF or does anything for brain health for that matter. We have no peer-reviewed papers that show the same results that Schiff Vitamins promises.

All things considered, Neuriva looks like a bit of an underwhelming supplement. It only has Phosphatidylserine going for it. The same ingredient that you can get for cheaper from your local vitamin store.

Even if you consider going for Neuriva Plus, it’s not much of an “upgrade.” The only difference is that it has added B vitamins. Which will not make much of a difference in terms of your cognitive performance. All in all, then, we don’t recommend Neuriva as one of the best brain formulas currently on the market.

NeuroQ Ingredients

The ingredients in NeuroQ are:

  • Gotu Kola aerial extract – 250mg
  • Turmeric rhizome extract – 250mg
  • Ginkgo Leaf Extract – 120mg
  • Phosphatidylserine – 100mg
  • Coffee Fruit Extract – 100mg
  • Propolis extract – 75mg

As shown on the label:

NeuroQ Ingredients

At first glance, NeuroQ looks like a more advanced formula than Neuriva. Not only does it contain more ingredients than Neuriva, but NeuroQ also has better ingredients for brain health overall. It contains Ginkgo Biloba which is a tried and tested memory enhancer – especially effective for older folks.

Then there is Phosphatidylserine, which, as we’ve seen, doesn’t have much of an immediate effect but rather protects your brain health over the long run. Gotu Kola is another well-studied Ayurvedic plant known to improve the efficiency of your brain cell communication – improving your cognition overall. Lastly, NeuroQ contains Turmeric which has protective and anti-inflammatory effects on your brain.

Based on these ingredients alone, NeuroQ looks like a superior formula by far. We believe it can definitely improve your brain function.

However, NeuroQ has some drawbacks, too.

There are actually some major issues with the formula that make it fall behind the market-leading nootropics.

For one, NeuroQ also uses ineffective and unproven ingredients like Coffee Fruit Extract, which we’ve already seen in Neuriva.

Then there is Propolis extract. Propolis is a resinous substance made by the bees. A few drops of propolis mixed with a spoon of honey every day is a good recipe for enhancing immunity and general health benefits.

While the marketing of NeuroQ claims that propolis can trigger brain cell growth, there is no human evidence that supports these promises.

Lastly, there is an awful lot of missing ingredients here. Instead of using the aforementioned untested compounds, NeuroQ could’ve included CDP-Choline, vitamin D, or Maritime Pine Bark Extract. These are the ingredients all the best nootropic stacks use. They would make NeuroQ far more effective at improving your focus, memory, and cognitive function across the board.

Overall then, NeuroQ looks like a good nootropic supplement, but not the best. If you’re looking for the best brain health stack on the market for mental clarity, productivity, long-range brain neuronal support, and concentration, there are better options available.

Neuriva vs NeuroQ – Side Effects

Neuriva is a relatively safe supplement. It shouldn’t cause any side effects for most healthy individuals.

The same goes for NeuroQ, which is also free of stimulants and any substances that could potentially raise the risk of negative reactions.

Neuriva vs NeuroQ – Customer Reviews

In terms of user reviews, Neuriva fares better than NeuroQ. This is mostly due to the fact that Neuriva has a lot more reviews online than NeuroQ. Neuriva also has a better score than NeuroQ in terms of overall ratings.

However, Schiff Vitamins have invested a lot into the marketing of Neuriva, which is why it is so popular. Schiff Vitamins have a massive budget to invest in TV and internet ads, whereas NeuroQ is a lot smaller supplement company. It is also worth remembering that reviews can easily be faked – the best way to know how the supplement will work for you is by checking the ingredients for yourself and seeing if the science agrees with the manufacturer’s claims.

The Bottom Line

Which one is better: Neuriva or NeuroQ?

All things considered, NeuroQ is the clear winner between the two. It has a larger formula than Neuriva, and the ingredients themselves are better overall when it comes to improving your memory, focus, and cognitive function.

However, even though we think NeuroQ is better than Neuriva, it is far from the best nootropic supplement on the market.

If you are looking for a brain supplement to support not only short-term memory and concentration, but also enhance & support long-term neuron health and development, there are definitely better options on the market today.
