Zenify Review: Does it Work for Stress? (2021)

Zenify Review - Does it Work for Stress?

Here’s our Zenify review. Zenify is a beverage with nutrients and herbal compounds claimed to help you lower stress levels, improve mood, and enhance feelings of well-being. But does it really work? Is it worth your time and money? Are there better supplements out there for stress and overthinking? We share our thoughts below!

Zenify at a Glance

Pros

  • Contains the amino acid L-Theanine which promotes relaxation
  • Crisp, enjoyable taste
  • Naturally flavored

Cons

  • Incomplete formula – lacking more core ingredients for stress reduction
  • Contains GABA which doesn’t work as an oral supplement
  • Magnesium is underdosed

Summary: Zenify is a tasty nootropic drink that claims to improve your mental state and reduce daily stress. It comes in a packet of 12 cans and costs $37.99. Zenify only contains 1 ingredient that can do what it claims – L-Theanine. The rest of its formula is ineffective. Glycine is a natural amino acid that can lower stress, but we already get plenty of it through food. GABA – another ingredient in Zenify – is ineffective because it can’t easily cross your blood-brain barrier. The vitamins B & C are good for general health but their doses are low and you’re unlikely to experience any difference from using them. If you just want a tasty and healthy soda replacement, then Zenify could be the right product for you. However, if you’re looking for something to naturally reduce your stress levels and promote emotional well-being, there are stronger, more effective, and more comprehensive formulas available on the market today.

Zenify Ingredients

Here are the ingredients in Zenify:

  • B vitamins
  • Vitamin C
  • Magnesium
  • L-Theanine
  • GABA
  • Glycine

As shown on the labels:

There are only three ingredients in Zenify that offer relaxation and stress-reducing effects – glycine, L-Theanine, and GABA. This is far less than in other stress reduction supplements.

The rest of the ingredients in Zenify – magnesium, vitamin C, B vitamins – are all basic nutrients essential for everyday health. Magnesium does have relaxation properties, but there’s only 10% of the required daily amount of it in Zenify, making it ineffective.

In terms of nutritional value, Zenify Original has 50 calories per can compared to Zenify Zero Sugar’s 10 calories per can.

But what exactly do the ingredients in Zenify all do? And is Zenify really worth your time and money as far as lowering your stress levels goes?

We look closer at the ingredients in the Zenify drink and share our thoughts.

L-Theanine

L-Theanine is the main stress-reducing supplement in Zenify. Commonly found in green tea, L-Theanine is an amino acid that helps increase your alpha brainwaves. What is the benefit of this?

The benefit is, alpha brainwaves are linked to feelings of relaxation and creativity. L-Theanine helps to calm your mind and enhance focus without causing drowsiness. Essentially, L-Theanine puts you in a state of “relaxed awareness.”

This is why L-Theanine works so well together with caffeine, giving you the energy kick of the stimulant without the downside of jitters or other side effects.

GABA

GABA is a good ingredient on paper – but not in practice. Why is GABA good on paper? Because GABA is your brain’s inhibitory neurotransmitter – reducing anxiety and improving mood.

So, what makes it bad in practice? The answer: low bioavailability. GABA has a large molecular structure, so when you supplement it, GABA doesn’t pass the blood-brain barrier. As a result, it doesn’t have any effect at all. (source: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4594160/)

GABA is not a good option in the Zenify Drink because of this. There are far better ingredients that should’ve been included here.

Glycine

Glycine is a natural amino acid. It’s responsible for many processes in the body, from collagen production, muscle tissue recovery, digestive function, to sleep and a lot more.

Glycine is shown to raise serotonin levels in the brain in some cases – making you feel better mentally. However, while there’s 250m of the compound in Zenify, we already get plenty of Glycine through foods. Meat, dairy, legumes, fish, and other sources of protein are all high in glycine.

It’s helpful – in the unlikely scenario where you’re deficient – but you probably won’t notice much of an effect from the glycine in the Zenify Drink in your day-to-day life.

Commentary on Zenify’s Ingredients

Zenify does have some good ingredients in it – but there are only three main stress-reducing nutrients in the drink. And while these ingredients look good in theory, L-Theanine is the only one that will make a real difference here.

Although L-Theanine works well as an oral supplement, GABA has a hard time absorbing in the brain, and most people already get enough Glycine through food. As for the other ingredients in Zenify – B vitamins, vitamin C, and magnesium – they’re included in doses that are too low to make a noticeable difference.

Zenify is unlikely to have an overall effect on your stress levels, there are plenty of other supplements on the market which could help to a larger extent.

What would make Zenify better?

Ashwagandha is an herb linked to reducing the stress hormone cortisol and improving vitality. Meanwhile, L-Tyrosine is an amino acid that helps reduce anxiety, stress, and overthinking, and can help you stay focused during highly stressful situations.

These ingredients would make Zenify a more powerful product – and definitely would be stronger than Glycine and GABA.

Zenify Reviews & Testimonials

Zenify is available on Amazon, Walmart, and may other retailers, so reviews are easy to find. Here’s what some users said about the drink:

“It tasted good, but I don’t think it helped to reduce stress.” – Elif

“Very tasty and the perfect amount of carbonation! Very slight feeling of calm, not as profound as I had hoped for.” – Nicole Allsman

“I tried one last night. I expected maybe a blueberry flavor but it was a kinda odd taste – with a lingering synthetic sugar after taste. I powered through the taste and about 3/4th down the can, I felt a little wobbly/tired but the effects wore off quickly and it didn’t put me to sleep. In fact, I was restless last night and stayed up for 3+ hours after the drink. Perhaps I need to drink 2-3 for maximum effect but jeeze, they’re about 2$ a can. They won’t last me long at that rate. I hoped for better but what can ya do? I may edit my review late after I down more of the drink and see if it helps.” – Angela Wells

Is Zenify Bad for You?

Carrying on from the previous question, you may wonder is Zenify bad for you in general? Can drinking Zenify cause some sort of long-term issues?

The answer is no. Zenify probably won’t be bad for you if you lead a healthy lifestyle. Zenify is a carbonated drink that consists of natural ingredients to reduce stress and promote a calm headspace.

Zenify Taste & Flavor – Our Experience

How does Zenify taste? What’s the flavor like?

To us, Zenify tastes like a sweetened citrus drink. Think of lemonade but with a bit more depth and flavor added. The overall flavor of Zenify is refreshing and enjoyable for most people, although some claim it has an artificial aftertaste. However, we’ve found Zenify to be a cool carbonated drink, and natural tasting, too.

Where to Buy?

Zenify Costs $37.99 for a pack of 12 cans. So if you drink it every day, it will last you less than 2 weeks. This makes Zenify a relatively expensive stress-reduction drink compared to more effective supplements that are currently on the market.

You can buy Zenify at numerous places online, including on Amazon, Walmart, Whole Foods, The Vitamin Shoppe, and many more.

The Bottom Line

Zenify isn’t the strongest or most effective stress reduction supplement available. Although it’s a pleasant way to consume calm-inducing ingredients as a tasty beverage – this doesn’t mean it works as well as other options.

Zenify’s incomplete ingredient profile leaves a lot to be desired. The only good ingredient in the drink is L-Theanine. The GABA doesn’t absorb very well due to the blood-brain barrier struggles, and most peopl already get enough of glycine and other vitamins it contains.

If you’re looking for something that helps you with stress, anxiety, and mental rumination, there are definitely better options available out there.
