Neuriva Sleep Review – Does It Work? (Updated)

Neuriva Sleep Review

Sleep is incredibly important.

It affects all functions of our body, and it governs how well you will perform in your day-to-day life.

Sleep deprivation has become somewhat of an epidemic these days, so it’s no surprise that more and more people are looking for natural sleep aids to help fix their insomnia.

The good news is that there are now many high-quality sleep pills on the market that don’t cause side effects or dependency like synthetic drugs.

However, there are also a lot of ineffective – and downright scam – supplements on the market, just like with any other type of supplement.

Today, we’ll be looking at Neuriva Sleep, which is the newest iteration of the highly popular supplement, which has been marketed for brain health, but now it focuses on sleep specifically.

How well does it work, and does it belong among the very best sleep aids we’ve seen, or among the worst, or perhaps somewhere in between, we’ll answer in detail below – starting with a quick summary.

Neuriva Sleep Review at a Glance

Pros

  • Contains Ashwagandha which lowers stress hormones, and helps you relax and sleep better
  • Melatonin improves sleep onset and duration
  • Inexpensive at $12.97 per bottle (Walmart, 30 servings)

Cons

  • Only 2 ingredients – lacking other core sleep aids
  • Both Ashwagandha and Melatonin are dosed lightly

NEURIVA SLEEP REVIEW TL;DR

For the price that is being charged, Neuriva Sleep is a decent sleep aid. If you aren’t looking for anything better at the moment, it can help you improve your sleep slightly.

However, it is far from the best sleep aid we’ve seen. There is no magnesium, l-theanine, chamomile, or other best-studied sleep aid ingredients in Neuriva’s formula. Without these, the effectiveness of Neuriva Sleep is severely limited.

Not only that, the melatonin Neuriva Sleep is using is synthetic. The jury is still out on how safe and healthy it is to take synthetic melatonin every day.

If you’re able to afford higher-quality sleep aids that use natural melatonin (such as the one extracted from tart cherries), we’d go that route. But for occasional sleep support, Neuriva Sleep is fine.

About Neuriva Sleep

As briefly mentioned, Neuriva Sleep is a dietary supplement designed to help you get to sleep faster, along with improving the quality of your sleep.

The whole spiel about this supplement is that by improving your sleep, it will improve pretty much all the other aspects of your health and wellness.

This is not some outrageous claim by Schiff Vitamins – it actually makes sense. Sleep is vital to all of our mental and physical functions. It’s when your body regenerates, learns new information, and gets “recharged” for the next day.

Neuriva Sleep promises that with just 1 capsule at bedtime, it will help you catch some ZZZ’s to help you wake up refreshed and energized.

Sounds promising, but how exactly will Neuriva Sleep work for you? Is it better than the Neuriva nootropic version, which was a disappointment?

We’ll find out soon enough.

How to use Neuriva Sleep

Neuriva Sleep is simple to use.

Just take one capsule daily, 30 to 60 minutes before going to bed, ideally on an empty stomach or with a very light meal, and let the ingredients do the work.

Neuriva Sleep Ingredients

Neuriva Sleep Ingredients

Okay, so Neuriva Sleep is not the most complex of supplements.

It contains only 2 active ingredients, they are:

  • Ashwagandha Root and Leaf Extract (120mg)
  • Melatonin (1mg)

The ingredients themselves are good and effective at promoting sleep, as you’ll see explained below.

However, we’d like to see more sleep aids added to the formula, such as chamomile, l-theanine, and magnesium. This would make it more effective at getting you to sleep faster, and improving sleep quality.

Ashwagandha

Ashwagandha is an Ayurvedic herb that’s gained popularity for its effects on stress. Studies have shown that ashwagandha can help your body adapt to both physical and mental stress by balancing your hormones, such as cortisol, estrogen, and testosterone. High cortisol can lead to ill effects on your body, including chronic insomnia, and Ashwagandha specializes in lowering cortisol – in some studies, up to 30%!

However, the dosage here is a little too low. 120mg per serving is a decent amount, but evidence suggests that dosages of 300mg-600mg are more effective at improving sleep. We will say, however, that taking Ashwagandha everyday long term at this dosage is a very safe way to reap some of the benefits of the herb, without experiencing any side effects. At just 120mg per serving, this ingredient is going to be easier for your body to process.

Okay, so that leaves us with Melatonin.

Melatonin

Melatonin is a hormone that helps you fall asleep. Your body naturally produces it after sunset when you start getting ready for bed, along with some other neurochemicals such as GABA.

However, in people who have chronic stress, or suffer from hormonal imbalances, melatonin production and/or effectiveness may be impaired.

As such, some people like taking melatonin supplements to induce sleepiness.

One thing is clear – melatonin supplements work. Study after study shows that melatonin supplements, regardless if they’re synthetic like in Neuriva or naturally sourced, help improve pretty much all the sleep parameters: sleep onset, latency, duration, and quality.

However, how safe and healthy is it to take melatonin supplements – especially synthetic ones – long-term, is another question.

We’re not the biggest fans of taking melatonin every night. On occasions when you have an important day coming up, or if you’re jet-lagged, then yes, it could be a good idea. It’s something I personally like to do.

However, what I would recommend is choosing natural melatonin over its synthetic counterpart. The reason being is that your body can naturally use melatonin from food sources because it recognizes it. Our body is designed to effectively absorb and digest everything that comes from nature.

This is why, when buying sleep supplements with melatonin, I always suggest opting for ones that contain tart cherry extract or melatonin extracted from tart cherries.

Customer Reviews

Neuriva Sleep is still a relatively new supplement to hit the market, so impartial and trustworthy testimonials can be hard to come by. On Walmart’s website, Neuriva Sleep only has 6 reviews with an average score of 3.5/5.

Does Neuriva Sleep Have Side Effects?

Neuriva Sleep is unlikely to cause any side effects. The reason is that it only contains 2 active ingredients, and they are lightly dosed. Ashwagandha is only 120mg (the optimal effective dosage is 300-600mg), and Melatonin is 1mg which is safely used in studies.

Ashwagandha interacts with some immuno-modulating drugs, and it can have a negative impact on people with autoimmune conditions. This is because Ashwagandha is a natural immunomodulator.

Where to Buy?

Neuriva Sleep can be bought at Walmart, Target, and other major retailers and on their websites. The price is $12.97 per bottle (30 servings) at Walmart at the moment of writing.

The Bottom Line

Neuriva Sleep is a decent supplement. It’s safe, lightly dosed, and simplistically formulated. If you are just looking for that little extra bit of support to your sleep, and you don’t want to spend too much, then Neuriva Sleep could be a good option for you.

That said, is Neuriva Sleep the most effective natural sleep aid you’ll find on the market? The answer is a definite no.

With a little research, you can find sleep aids that have more comprehensive formulas, contain natural melatonin (not the synthetic one like in Neuriva), and are better dosed and more potent overall.
